DAVE SIRUS TALKS SNL, UPCOMING PROJECTS AND WORKING WITH PETE DAVIDSON ON THE KING OF STATEN ISLAND

Dave Sirus, also known by his character Brick Stone, spoke with me all about his remarkable career as a comedian and a writer. Dave's most recent project is 'The King Of Staten Island', the superb, comedy-drama which was loosely based on the life of Pete Davidson. In this interview with me, he covers everything TKOSI, who he'd love to roast and teases some new projects...

The King Of Staten Island is amazing and is definitely now one of my favourite movies. What was it like working with a director as great as Judd Apatow?

It was great because I got to see someone who was completely comfortable in his role and had so much experience so that nothing was ever going to surprise or rattle him. Knowing that he had so much under his belt really makes it easier to feel comfortable and trust the process.

What surprised you the most about working on The King Of Staten Island?

The sheer quality and quantity of available food throughout the shooting day.

What elements of the movie are you most proud of?

I think the realistic aspect of portraying someone like this. The way we were able to give an entertaining version of something that is very serious and could easily be done wrong and without the realism necessary to carry such a story.

It's safe to say you've had an incredible career so far. Writing for Saturday Night Live is like every writer/comedian's dream. How did you feel when you got the job?

When I got the job I was happy and aware that this was not making it, this was a chance of making it and it was dependent on how things go to see if I really would have a career from this.

Favourite SNL sketch?

Phil Hartman's Frank Sinatra.

Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog is hilariously funny. How did you come about writing for it?

I submitted a packet for after SNL ended for his Hulu election specials.

You've written for Comedy Central Roast Battles. Who would be a dream person to roast?

I didn't write for the roast battles, only the Roasts, but I'd like to roast someone who can't take a joke but deserves it, like Kanye or Steven Seagal.

Have you been working on any new projects recently?

Yeah I'm doing stuff with Triumph and some other future things with Pete.

Back to your most recent project. You and Pete Davidson are good friends. What was it like seeing him star in his own movie?

It was great seeing him so easily adapt to it, and seeing how well it went and naturally he fell into the role.

Finally, I read that Pete hired a tattoo artist as a gift for the cast and crew. Did you end up getting one?

No, I'm not getting a tattoo no matter how much he asks me to.

It was a pleasure getting to speak to Dave and I urge you to go see The King Of Staten Island if you haven't already. Also, make sure to check out Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog on Hulu and YouTube.
